A Better Way

Formerly the Black United Fund of New Jersey, the African American Fund of New Jersey since 1980 has touched the lives of over 3 million people who live in the state’s urban areas.

- Over $3.5 million in financial assistance has been given to approximately
  700 community-based organizations
- 16 of the 21 NJ county health and human service agencies have
  received our support

Our primary goal is to enable individuals
to help themselves to create a better sense of self-worth,
a better self-identity and ultimately,
self-sufficiency.

And while we have been able to make a difference, much work remains for us to improve conditions in the African American community.

- Annually, thousands of Black single-parent households earn well below
the poverty level for a family of four ($12,675) 1
- 27% of Black children live in poverty 2
- The average infant mortality rate among Blacks is 13.2% 3
- 73% of all children living with HIV/AIDS are African American 4

These numbers are increasing every day. Your support can help us take control. Supporting the African American Fund of New Jersey is a better way to help African American families and our communities.
